Fringe Voices - Call for Applications

Fringe Voices, an initiative by the Denver Fringe Festival supported by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, will present a series of performances offered by artists working across artistic media, responding to Denver’s most pressing social challenges.

We are looking to provide each of four artists working in any media, focused on how their art can be mobilized for social change in Denver, with an opportunity to develop their artistic practice into a live performance to be shared with the public. The development of each performance will be supported by performance and production mentors who have developed original works for the Denver Fringe Festival.

Denver Fringe will select each of four artists to participate in Fringe Voices based on three criteria:

  1. The artist has an ongoing creative practice and is interested in exploring their work through performance
  2. The artist’s work demonstrates an ongoing critical address to systemic harms and/or resilient thriving experienced by members of the Denver community
  3. The artist has articulated a compelling rationale for how their work would be suited for presentation, interpretation, elaboration, and/or collaboration in the form of performance.

Selected artists will be provided with the following in order to develop performance works centered on their critical social art practices:

  • $500 directly to the artist as a fee for their work
  • mentorship from experienced Denver Fringe performers and producers (to assist in the development of scripting, staging, and production of an original performance centered on the artist’s work and practice)
  • workshop sessions to assist artists and collaborators in developing their performance
  • a high-quality performance arts venue to stage the original performance
  • one professionally produced performance (fully staffed)
  • a one-hour talkback session with the audience concerning the artist and their work (moderation provided)
  • ticketing, marketing, and promotion for the performance
  • fully captioned video documentation of the performance

Final performance works would be presented in February and March of 2025.

If you are interested in applying, please submit and application from the Google form at this link by July 31st, 2024 and we will provide you with application materials.
