Join master storyteller, Dennis Elkins, in a riotous musical treasure hunt as he tracks down the culprits responsible for unleashing this destructive and blatantly untruthful fable. This solo musical is replete with original songs guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and ultimately celebrate one man’s story of breaking free.

Written and Performed by Dennis Elkins

A member of Actors’ Equity Association, Elkins’ resume includes performances at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Thingamajig Theatre Company, Nashville Rep, and Single Carrot Theatre among others. Elkins is no stranger to solo shows, delighting audiences with his five-star performances in such original works as Tipping the Glass, an Evening with O Henry and Poe’s Never Bet the Devil Your Head. 

Elkins is the creator of three original solo shows celebrating the escapades of ‘mr. dennis’ entitled A Trilogy: box., bag— and blood(line)The trilogy is a composite of three independent plays tracking the unpredictability of cardboard boxes, the chaotic travels of a middle-aged man on the loose in India and the inevitable chaos of retirement (when set to music), or in other words the things, places, and people who make us who we are. box. and bag—, were presented in the 2021 and 2022 Denver Fringe Festival as well as in Edinburgh in 2023 along with blood(line). 2024 marks the Denver area premiere of this final play in the trilogy.

After a long career in higher education, Dennis is currently living life as an itinerant artist.  A talented director as well, his copious directing credits include Merry Wives of Windsor and Comedy of Errors for the New Mexico Shakespeare Festival, The Pirates of Penzance, Spring Awakening, Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Learned Ladies and Little Women. Elkins is a certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® and a member of Actors’ Equity Association.

Music composed by Brandon Scott Grayson

Brandon Scott Grayson is a composer, lyricist, music director, and arranger originally from Las Vegas, NV. Highlights include multiple seasons and over a dozen productions with the Utah Shakespeare Festival, several productions with CAP21 at Molloy University, as well as music directing various world and US premiere musicals, including The Sandman (written by the authors of the Tony award-winning musical Bandstand). He is also a published composer, writing music for the shows Best Foot Forward! (Youthplays) and Clown Bar 2 (Concord).

Margo has had a love for music since the age of eight when she first started taking piano lessons. She
now holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from Colorado Christian University and a Master’s
Degree in Music Theory from the University of Denver. Her repertoire of experience includes solo
performances, collaboration with soloists, ensembles and orchestras in the Denver area, and work on
numerous musicals where she has served as both pianist and music director. When not busy playing the piano
or singing, Margo enjoys spending time with her husband, 18-year-old twins, and two dogs.

Karla Knudsen is director/co-collaborator of Dennis Elkins’ A Trilogy, which includes box., bag--, and blood(line), as well as the solo acoustic musical, A Sea Full of Stars. She has directed/performed with Savannah Shakes, Savannah Rep, and Collective Face Theatre and taught at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Karla serves as consulting editor for ARTPULSE. Summers, she can be found hiking glaciers and building tiny houses with her family. Karla holds degrees from SCAD and Carnegie Mellon University.

Penny is a lifelong theatre maker, educator, and award-winning director, with 20 years of experience in the development of new work. In 2018, she founded Flying Solo! Presents with the expressed purpose of fostering new work by American artists on the international stage. Since the premiere season in Edinburgh in 2019, Flying Solo! Presents has supported more than 45 artists in 27 productions in Edinburgh, Denver, and New York City. Productions, live and online, include 4 concerts by American based musicians, a dance production, multiple solo shows, new musicals, and audio plays in collaboration with This is Not a Theatre Company. At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022 and 2023, Flying Solo! Presents produced a showcase of new American work and emerging American artists featuring 13 artists.  Follies, A Showcase of Bits and Bobs will be back in Edinburgh in 2024 highlighting the work of a brand-new group of artists.
