Dead Parents Club
Dead Parents Club is a live dark comedy performance that turns grief into a game no one wanted to play. The show centers on five members of the Dead Parents Club seated in a semi circle. Tonight’s meeting has one agenda item: electing a new president. The election unfolds through competitive storytelling rounds where performers attempt to prove they’ve had it worse than everyone else. Structured like a game show layered over a support group, Dead Parents Club blends scripted framing with improvisation, audience reaction, and heightened theatricality. Trauma becomes currency. Oversharing becomes strategy. Emotional boundaries dissolve onstage.
Producer & Performer: Andrea Nieto
Andrea is a writer, producer, improviser, and community builder based in Denver, CO. Before the age of 30, they lost six of the people closest to them, including their mom, who died shortly after their 29th birthday during COVID lockdown—because timing matters, and grief loves an audience of one. In response, Andrea did what any stable person would do: got drunk and signed up for a stand-up comedy class. Five years later, that decision has spiraled into Dead Parents Club—a show that turns grief into structure, discomfort into comedy, and inherited trauma into something suspiciously well-produced. The show is both a tribute to the people they’ve lost and a celebration of the dark humor that made surviving their 20s possible.
