The Adventures of Beastie

Worlds can be built purely from imagination. Oceans, deserts, and entire adventures created through sound, movement, and play. In this interactive solo show, you join Beastie, a curious and playful creature, in bringing these worlds to life. But as the fun grows, so does a familiar voice. One that questions imagination and challenges joy. Blending physical comedy, onomatopoeia, and audience interaction, The Adventures of Beastie explores the tension between joy and self-judgment, asking when did we stop playing, and what would it take to begin again?

Would that I could leave 6/5 stars. This show is so special, and it sits with you far beyond your time in the theatre. I was privileged to watch it multiple times at Hamilton College. Each experience is unique; no show is the same. The Adventures of Beastie is a beautiful exploration of play, whimsy, growing up, and what it means to embrace childlike wonder. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will walk away thinking more critically about how kind your internal monologue might be. There is truly something so magical about this show. Don't walk, run to see the Adventures of Beastie!
I got to see 'The Adventures of Beastie' in New York and within that darkened theater, I was transported to a world where laughter abounded and my child heart was nourished. Del, who brings Beastie to life, ushers the audience into an adventure that engages sensorially and emotionally. Yes, it's an absolute wonderful time to be immersed in the experience and laugh joyously throughout the show. But what caught me off guard, is the feeling that my heart may have expanded even just a tiny bit as I walked out of the theatre, and part of my magical childhood was reunited with me in that moment.
I saw The Adventures of Beastie at Hamilton College with my kids who were about 7 and 12 at the time. The show was funny and poignant at the same time. My older kid particularly enjoyed the interactive components of the show and loved being picked to "hold" something. For weeks afterward, the kids kept asking me questions about the guy with the funny voice. The piece has layers so you can just enjoy an amusing adventure or reflect on growing up. Definitely something you should not miss!
