The Scientific Method

How far would you go for the truth? Based on real-life events, The Scientific Method is a quirky solo comedy show about the collision of science and religion. Freshman Catholic School Kid, Catherine Hayes, chases a miracle after her brother’s locker is set on fire and his bible doesn't burn. Inspired to prove the existence of God, Catherine embarks on a hilarious and earnest journey to find certainty in an uncertain world. The show follows six different characters - Nanna Thelma, Catherine Hayes, Patrick Hayes, Carrie Wilkes, Vice Principal Hurlee, and Jesus Christ, Son of God - all played by Cat Hayes.

Cat Hayes (she/they) is a writer and improviser who has been performing for five years. Cat teaches and studies at Kickstand Comedy in Portland, Oregon where they live with their wife Sarah, a dog named Checkers, and two cats named Idgy and Clyde. In addition to comedy, Cat loves philanthropy, park walks, a dark side, sitting around a table with beloved friends in the right lighting for hours and hours, plants, and birds.

Paul Stein (he/him) has directed and produced world premiere plays, comedy events and solo shows in theaters and festivals across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Mr. Stein produced over 1,600 live shows for Comedy Central. Paul is on faculty with The Actors Conservatory, Kickstand Comedy and a part-time instructor with Portland Community College. He is excited to call Portland his new home with his wife, Lynn and their 13-year old daughter, Kiera.

Cat gives a complex and winning performance as multiple characters telling a coming of age story that navigates queerness, Catholic guilt, and… arson! Very surreal and hilarious.
